Hello, I am Cliff. I am a dedicated React full-stack developer making my return to the field.

My work leverages Next.js to create balance between creativity, speed and responsiveness. I am strongly committed to seeking to merging aesthetic appeal with high performance.

About me

I am deeply passionate about web programming, a field I enthusiastically returned to after pivotal life experiences. My earlier foundation in computer science was solidified through the MITx courses offered on EdX (2016), and Harvard's CS50x (2016, refresher 2024), both of which provided a rigorous and challenging introduction to the field. These academic pursuits were complemented by practical application through full-stack bootcamps on Udemy. I particularly relish the problem-solving aspects of programming.

My growing expertise lies in React, Next.js, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS, areas in which I continuously look to explore and innovate. Learning how components synergize, especially through tutorials and documentation, is immensely satisfying for me.

Currently, I am actively seeking work opportunities that align with my skill set, while also dedicating time to developing three personal enterprise projects that showcase the creative potential of these technologies.

When I'm not coding, I enjoy a variety of activities that help me unwind and recharge. I keep fit with regular strength training workouts at the gym and find relaxation in following Premier League football and Formula One racing. My leisure time is often spent on city and beach walks, sharing moments with my daughters and their dogs, and learning new languages via DuoLingo.

One final note: I've set myself the goal of completing “The 20 Hour Ukulele Challenge“. It's a commitment to not only learn a new skill but also to embrace the joy of (self-made) music in my life.

Experience

Since 2019, I have been self-funding and running my own small firm, focusing on a variety of projects that demonstrate both challenge and promise. Prior to this, I embraced being a stay-at-home dad, dedicating myself to raising our two daughters, while also keeping my technical skills sharp through small-scale tech projects and numerous home improvement endeavors.

My professional journey began at Nederlander Theatres in London ending as an assistant box office manager. This role marked the start of a diverse career path which, prior to my graduation in 1996 and subsequent move to the Netherlands in 1998, saw me contributing to several companies and charitable organizations in administrative and accounting capacities. My experience includes roles as an assistant accountant at Farr Vintners and Trans World Airlines, a systems accountant at Notting Hill Housing Trust, managing accounts payable at DHL International UK, and a logistics assistant at KLM Cargo.

Each position has played a significant part in shaping my versatile skill set and professional perspective.
